Dallas Architect Asks Have You Visited Your Farmers Market Lately?

bump out additions

Dallas ArchitectLaura Davis, AIA shares thoughts and images of farmers markets, large and small, near and far.

As I was cruising the many blogs I follow, I found a post inspired by farmers markets on the San Francisco Edition of the apartment therapy blog. It reminded me of all the great structures, people, and food to be found in farmers markets.

San Francisco has several year-round markets that offer a bounty of fresh food for the chefs of the city’s best restaurants. It doesn’t hurt either, that you get to explore buildings like the historic 1898 Ferry Building, pictured above.

One of the magical things about farmers markets is that they can pop up on the side of a country road or can be major destinations in big cities. In areas of the country where the summers are short, the farmers market is a place to linger and enjoy the fruits of the quickly passing season.

Each market has their own personality based in history, local culture, regional agriculture, and their locations. Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market is as known for it’s rich selection of food, fish, flowers, and gifts as it is for the street performers.

The Dallas Farmers Market is made up of multiple metal buildings where you can find plenty of fruits and veggies, herbs, cut flowers. There is an amazing outdoor area of flowers, trees, and everything you could want for your landscape. The fall pumpkins and gourds should be appearing any day now. See you there!
