(August 1, 2012) – HPD Architecture LLC, a leading client-centered and solutions-oriented architecture and design firm, announces that HPD Design for Living LLC, a design-build firm focused on aging-in-place, has joined with HPD Architecture. Embracing HPD Design for Living’s expertise and personalized client experience, HPD Architecture enhances the design service offerings that allow seniors and individuals with disabilities to live more independently and comfortably in their homes.

As people age, many desire to remain in the comfort of their own homes. However, most homes are designed for younger families and do not accommodate aging needs. For individuals who have disability and/or mobility challenges, their homes frequently have similar design roadblocks that prevent accessible and functional living.

“HPD Architecture offers comprehensive design services to clients at different stages of their lives,” said Holly Hall, AIA, CAPS, and President of HPD Architecture. “As residential architects and interior designers, we have worked with many clients over the course of 25 years. With increasing frequency, as these clients grow older, we are asked to provide solutions that help them live more safely, comfortably, and longer in their own homes.”

HPD incorporates two key design approaches, Universal Design and Aging-in-Place. Universal Design is “the design of products and environments that are usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.”1 Aging-in-Place refers to “living in one’s home safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level.”2 As a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Hall understands the unique needs of seniors and how best to modify their homes so they may continue to live there as they age.

“It was natural to weave the HPD Design for Living services with HPD Architecture to benefit and better serve our clients,” added Hall.
