We know that building a new home is an exciting prospect. However, we also know that with so many different steps involved, it can also get complicated quickly.
Our job as your architect is to guide you through the decisions that need to be made. We work with you to create a home that is personalized and reflects the way you and your family live.
it’s about the client
When we are approached to help a client with a new home project, our first priority is to meet with them in their current home.
This is important because the visit allows us to become better acquainted with our client and not only get a feel for their individual lifestyle but also whether they will need specialized spaces, such as an entertainment or dining room, library or dedicated home office. When we know what the client needs and expects, we can assist them in making better design decisions.
location, location, location
We can help a client choose the right location for their new home if this has not already been determined. We have helped a number of our clients by accompanying them and their realtor to various properties to find the location that is the best fit for their new home.
Early site analysis can lead to the best placement and orientation of the home on the property. This service can include investigating natural drainage, sun angles, shading opportunities for energy conservation, utility locations, zoning restrictions, setbacks, and capturing views for the continued enjoyment of the property.
creating personalized plans
With our clients’ preferences in hand, we start with the floor plan layout. We focus on arranging rooms in a way that supports how the family wants to live in their new home. For example, a family with a busy mom may want to be able to watch her small children from the kitchen. Or if a client chooses, they may want to have a private kitchen separated from more formal living spaces where they can entertain.
Once we draw up schematic plans that include several different possibilities, we meet with our clients again to discuss each design idea. As no two clients are ever alike, each plan is unique to each client. We never reuse a plan we’ve drawn for another client.
getting into the details
When a client is happy with their floor plan, we then discuss in further detail the budget and type of materials to be used. We also work with our clients to research materials and technologies they may be interested in using in their new home.
With the arrangement of spaces determined, we then draft elevations (vertical views of the walls) that allow clients to see what the house will look like on the inside and out.
The more clearly a home is envisioned and the more carefully it is designed, the more time, money, and headaches we can save our clients in the long run.
building your perfect home
After construction details are finalized, we create a specifications manual for the contractor in which all selected materials, appliances, finishes, and equipment are listed. Clients may already have decided on a contractor. If not, we can also help in this regard by suggesting ones with which we have ongoing relationships and whom we feel would be best suited for the project.
For many of our clients, the bidding and construction process is all new territory. We stand by our clients to answer questions and solve problems. We participate in communication with the contractor and serve as the client’s advocate during construction and beyond.
building long-term relationships
Our firm takes pride in the fact that the relationships we build with our homeowners are long- term. Some of our clients have been with us over 30 years, having completed multiple renovations and new home projects.
